Is speaking the local language important to you and most importantly why or why not?

Create your life story with Intention

Moving abroad is transformative no matter how you do it. Whether you're embarking on this journey solo, with a partner, family, or even pets.  It also changes  whether you're relocating by choice or moving for someone else’s opportunity.  This Journey will change you in profound ways.

Our mission is to help you be intentional about choices that are in line with your values and cultivate the life you really want.

The goal? To thrive and to embody your life fully.

There are plenty of resources that  lay everything out for you step-by-step.

We will not be telling you the best neighborhoods(what does best mean anyway?)

The HOP Guide is designed to inspire you to unearth hidden gems within your self that will enable you to blaze your own paths that are highly aligned. Even if you life looks the same when your actions come from within you truly are taking the path less traveled.

Moving abroad challenges you in ways you can’t fully anticipate—we’ve been there and are dedicated to making the journey lighter for those that come after us. That’s where the true beauty of the Peregrine journey lies, in embracing the unknown, being up for the journey and knowing there is a worldwide community that gets it.

We are creating the infrastructure for international living so you can chart your own course. We curate events, content, products, and services and create technology, guides, thought leaders that culminate in a vibrant ecosystem for global players, so you can create your own vision of the future.

The Key is to first reflect on aspects of your inner world and values. This is where the real magic happens. Then you have an amazing starting point for turning your relocation into a journey of beautiful transformation.

It’s now.

Cultivate an Intentional Mindset

Grab your journal and write by hand or you can fill them in here and your responses will available in your HOP profile.

Prompts

Answer these in the most honest way possible. Write for at least 5 minutes. Be as detailed as possible.

  • What is your “why” for moving abroad?(outside of any obligations, what are you running towards?) Make sure to check How this aligns with your personal values (link to our personal values quiz)
  • Close your eyes and imagine your perfect day. Then your perfect week.  Write this Down.  (really take your time on this one.  What are the details that come to mind?  Working out, time you work, what you eat, how you move through the day, pets, kids, how often you see them and when? No detail is too much)
  • Then imagine what would make you feel most satisfied in the country you are considering moving to.  What would be your perfect first day?  Your perfect week?   your last Week? Last day?
Answering these questions will be the start of navigating the  way you want your life to look like in your new country.
  • Think about a time when you faced significant change. Maybe it was becoming a parent or attending university, buying a house or moving in with a partner. What did you learn about how you deal with change from that experience, and how can you use those lessons to design this next chapter? (write this down)
  • What strengths, skills, or experiences do you already have that you can bring to your life abroad? How can you intentionally use these to thrive? Where will you need support

It Matters How You Say Goodbye

Grab your journal and write by hand or you can fill them in here and your responses will available in your HOP profile.

Saying goodbye is hands down one of the hardest parts of moving abroad. It's not just about leaving a place and people you love, it is also important to honor the chapter you have lived there and the people who's lives you will be also changing with your absence. You are navigating grief alongside celebration and excitement. Goodbyes are complicated when you are the one on to a new adventure. If you can hold these two extremes and feel them both doing so can help you transition into a new chapter of your life story with more ease and long term determination and ease.

"Finding closure through ceremony is a great way to mark this change. The importance of rituals and meaning filled goodbyes can create space for your next chapter." Mickelle Weber Founder HOP

Prompts

Reflect on a time when you had to say goodbye. Remember where you were, what you could see, smell, taste, feel. What do you remember most? Were there lessons that you learned about yourself from this process? How do you want to handle future life transitions differently. What would you do the same?

Were there rituals or ceremonies that helped you keep perspective and bring meaning? Would you like to create new ones? Or keep the ones you like and bring them forward in a new way? Are there moments that you would like to bring ritual to but don't know where to start?

Are there people, places or things that you want to honor before leaving? What feels right to acknowledge their impact on your life so far?

Can you identify 2-5 of "your places"? "Your People" and "Your Things" that you want to honor? Are there people you would like to bring along to witness your saying goodbye to these things?

Landing Well. Grounding Into Your New Place

Grab your journal and write by hand or you can fill them in here and your responses will available in your HOP profile.

Integration into a new culture goes beyond learning a language—it’s about understanding the customs, embracing the quirks, and building meaningful relationships. Among other topics, navigating guilt, impermanence and cultural shifts are all part of the deal when living abroad.

Other topics that often come to the surface are issues of guilt of being in a new or safer place while loved ones are far away, or which holidays to celebrate.

Prompts

  • What’s one cultural norm in your host country that has surprised or challenged you? How can you embrace it to feel more connected to your new environment?
  • Think of a time you felt vulnerable while learning something new. How did that experience shape your growth? How can you apply that mindset to integrating into your new culture?
  • Write a list of three specific situations where speaking the local language could make a meaningful difference in your daily life. What small steps can you take to improve your confidence in those scenarios?
  • Reflect on how living in a new culture has changed your perspective. What parts of your personality have surfaced that you didn’t expect?

"Every conversation in a new language is a bridge to belonging."
